About OSMER

“Trakya University Ottoman Civilization Studies Application and Research Center Regulation” was published in the Official Gazette dated 17 November 2019. From 17.01.2020, Dr. Instructor Tülay CANITEZ is the Director of Ottoman Civilization Studies Application and Research Center. In his role as deputy director of the centre, Assist Prof. Dr. Member Esin Benian, and Dr. Banu Gökmen Erdoğan is present, while academics from different universities and faculties and directors in public institutions are members of the advisory board of the center.

Objectives of the Center

a) To carry out and support research on the Ottoman period in depth from social, political, economic, religious, and cultural aspects.
b) To contribute to understanding Turkey's political, social, and cultural problems and to produce solutions by making use of historical experience.
c) To create synergy by bringing together academicians working in different fields at the university, and to bring dynamism to Ottoman studies.
d) To improve awareness, awareness, and knowledge of Ottoman studies in Turkey; To organize courses, seminars, congresses, symposiums, and certificate programs in this framework; To provide support for research and training activities to be carried out in other relevant units.
e) To organize organizations in line with the objectives by cooperating with national and international organizations and to provide consultancy to these organizations when necessary.
f) To carry out studies that will create a basis for societies that have lived a long historical past together and shared a common culture to get to know each other better and act jointly.

Activity Areas of the Center

a) To conduct research on the Ottoman Empire at national and international levels.
b) To organize scientific congresses, symposiums, workshops, panels, conferences, and seminars at national and international levels.
c) To produce national and international projects.
d) To create a database that can be accessed by everyone from academic studies related to the Ottoman Empire at home and abroad.
e) Publishing and publishing scientific journals and bulletins.
f) To search for cooperation opportunities with other national and international, private and public institutions working on the subject and to ensure that joint studies are carried out; to present research results to the benefit of public and private sector institutions and organizations and researchers.
g) To work on other issues to be determined by the Board of Directors.
